On the Friday 27th of March 2020, Champagne loses a Veteran, Champagne Pol Roger family member Chantal Varenard de Billy has died at the age of 87 following a long battle with Alzheimer’s and eventually succumbing to the Covid-19 virus.

Born in 1932 in Epernay, Chantal was the youngest daughter of Louis Budin and was born into a Champagne family. Chantal’s family were instrumental in running and establishing a successful foreign and domestic market for Perrier-Jouët. Chantal married Christian de Billy (b. 1928) in 1955. Christian is Maurice Pol-Roger’s grandson and the fourth generation to own and run Maison Pol Roger

Chantals' passion, enthusiasm and commitment for Champagne is why we exist and why we want to educate students in the history and culture of this outstanding industry.

We raise a glass in honor to Chantals' legacy today, from all at the Champagne Academy our thoughts are with the Pol Roger family.

Stay safe & stay at home.
