Frédéric Panaïotis: Ruinart’s chef de cave from 2007 to 2025

Chef de Cave, Maison Ruinart

1966–2025

It is with deep sadness that the Champagne Academy marks the passing of Frédéric Panaïotis, esteemed Chef de Cave of Maison Ruinart, who left us far too soon in 2025.

Frédéric was more than a master of his craft—he was a visionary, a mentor, and an ambassador for the soul of Champagne. Since taking the helm at Ruinart in 2007, he brought with him not only a deep technical mastery, honed from decades of experience, but also a rare sensitivity to the elegance and expressiveness of Chardonnay.

His wines were celebrated for their finesse and luminosity, each cuvée a reflection of his quiet artistry and uncompromising standards.

Beyond his formidable skill, Frédéric was beloved for his warmth, humility, and generosity of spirit. He believed in sharing knowledge, inspiring countless young winemakers and academicians through his mentorship and passion.

He was a dear friend to many in the global wine community and a proud supporter of the Champagne Academy’s mission to uphold the excellence of our region.

Frédéric's legacy will continue to resonate in every bottle of Ruinart he helped shape, in every vineyard he walked, and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of working with him.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues at Maison Ruinart.

The Champagne world has lost one of its greats.

Frédéric Panaïotis, merci.

You will be deeply missed, and never forgotten.
